What is Pulsar® Plus Sun Screen?
Pulsar® Plus Sun Screen is a cyanuric acid stabilizer for outdoor commercial pools. It protects free chlorine from UV degradation so an outdoor pool holds its residual through the day.
Why would a Cal Hypo pool add cyanuric acid?
Cal Hypo is unstabilized, so outdoor chlorine burns off in sunlight. A small controlled dose of Sun Screen near 8 ppm CYA holds chlorine longer without the buildup that stabilized tablets cause.
How much cyanuric acid should an outdoor pool hold?
CDC guidance notes a CYA level near 8 ppm retains UV protection while keeping ORP high enough for health-code disinfection. Sun Screen doses stabilizer once, on purpose, not with every chlorination.
Does Sun Screen cause chlorine lock?
No. Dosed correctly near 8 ppm, Sun Screen protects chlorine without reaching the high CYA levels that bind chlorine into reserve. The difference is a single controlled dose versus continuous buildup.
Do indoor pools need Sun Screen?
